Mr Lu Ton is an Australian trained Orthopaedic surgeon. After graduating from Melbourne University in 1991, he commenced his medical career working as a hospital based doctor at a variety of hospitals in Melbourne and country Victoria. In 2001 he completed his training under the Victorian Orthopaedic Specialist training program.

He was awarded two professional fellowships in complex spinal and joint reconstruction surgery. The first was at the Austin/Royal Children’s/Royal Melbourne hospitals as a spinal fellow for 12 months. At these hospitals, he treated all aspects of spinal conditions: trauma, children’s, deformity, degeneration, tumour spinal conditions, from the neck down to the coccyx. The second fellowship was in Toronto, Canada where he had the opportunity to work under world-renowned specialist Spine surgeons, Drs Hamilton Hall, Michael Ford and Joel Finkelstein at the Orthopaedic and Arthritic Institute and Sunnybrook Trauma Centre, Toronto.

In 2004 Mr Ton and family returned to Melbourne where he took up an appointment as specialist orthopaedic spine surgeon at the Austin and later the Alfred hospitals. He is also a consultant orthopaedic specialist at the Warringal Private Hospital, Heidelberg and Epworth Hospital, Richmond.

Mr Ton is trained in all aspects of complex spinal conditions and surgery: severe trauma, advanced degenerative spinal disease, complex spinal deformity, cancer of the spine, revision spinal surgery (failed back surgery) and paediatric spinal problems. He is also an expert on minimally invasive (keyhole) spinal surgery.

In addition to clinical work, he is also a Melbourne University lecturer and a supervisor of the Victorian Orthopaedic specialist training program. Mr Ton is involved in the spinal trauma team at the tertiary and quaternary referral centre at The Alfred Hospital.
